Indian Medical Association (IMA) Andhra Pradesh branch took strong objection to the State government’s proposal to certify registered and private medical practitioners (RMPs and PMPs) as qualified professionals after a year’s training, saying it was unethical and against the rule that bars persons not possessing MBBS-and-above qualifications from practising modern medicine.

R. Jaya Sekhar, State president, general secretary Karuna Murthy and other office-bearers of the IMA regretted that the government going ahead with its ill-conceived idea in spite of the High Court declaring the impugned G.O No. 465 as bad in law and unconstitutional.

The IMA office-bearers observed that the proposal to bring RMPs and PMPs into the mainstream cannot be an alibi for the argument that doctors were reluctant to work in villages.
