Hyderabad artistes cry foul over Nandi awards

May 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:13 am IST - RAJAHMUNDRY:

The Nandi theatre festival’s awards show kicked up a controversy on Saturday, with a theatre group from Hyderabad alleging bias by the jury in denying them the best performance award. Accusing the jury of being biased against young artistes and technicians, members of the Hyderabad-based group, Govada Creations Association, which performed the play Komaram Bheem in the Nandi Natakotsavalu, staged a protest at the prize distribution function here on Saturday.

The play did win four awards in the best comedian, best villain, best makeup and special jury categories for 2013.

The jury is biased against young artistes and technicians. We are also doubtful whether they are partial against Telangana, as our play is about Komaram Bheem, a hero to Telangana.

M.S. Chowdary,

Writer and director of Komaram Bheem
