Excitement was palpable among people who continued to throng the river-front avenue at Uddandarayunipalem where the foundation stone for the new capital will be laid on October 22.

The open fields are buzzing with people who come in droves, savouring the cool evening climate. More than 10,000 people turned up on Friday evening.

While most of them come to see the venue as they might not get an opportunity to see the spectacle in view of security controls, some others prefer to come before the main event in view of Dasara festival.

Meanwhile, arrangements are in full swing at the venue spread across 250 acres.

The main stage, a massive pad of 60 X 40 feet stands at a height of 11 feet from the ground. Two VIP stages are also being built to accommodate including Ministers, MLAs and other dignitaries.

A cultural dais and another stage to present a short film, ‘My Amaravati-My Future’, are also being readied.

The district administration is also building a ‘Yaga Sala’, and a ‘Stupam’, with 30 feet width where the ‘puttu mannu’ (soil), and sacred water collected from 13 districts will be placed.

Minister for IT and Communications Palle Raghunatha Reddy performed a puja to the Stupam on Friday.

District Collector Kantilal Dande said all arrangements for the main stage and other works will be completed by the evening of October 19. Two rehearsals of the event will be held on October 20 and October 21.

Police, on the other hand, are holding ‘mythri’ meetings with local villagers to sensitise them about the event. Villagers have been told to extend their cooperation and make the event a huge success.
