High Court asks transport operators to pay entry tax

A Division Bench of Hyderabad High Court on Friday made it clear that the commercial vehicles entering Telangana State have to pay Motor Vehicle Tax pending final disposal of several petitions challenging the move by the State government. The Bench comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta and Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar also directed the State government that the money collected from the tax would be kept in a separate account under the charge of the Transport Commissioner, Telanagana. The Bench was passing comprehensive interim orders on a batch of writ petitions filed by several transport operators from A. P. challenging the imposition of Motor Vehicle Tax. The interim orders on Friday which will be in force till the final judgment in the cases is delivered.
