Heavy rain likely in many coastal areas today

Places in West Godavari receive highest rainfall, followed by Krishna and East Godavari districts

Heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Srikakualm, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari, Krishna and Guntur of coastal Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur at many places over coastal A.P. and at a few places over Rayalaseema during the same time, according to the India Meteorological Department.

Strong surface winds from westerly direction, with speed reaching 45 to 50 km/hr are likely along and off coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next 24 hours from 6 p.m. on Monday, according to the Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC).

The state of sea would be rough to very rough. The CWC has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off coastal A.P.

The southwest monsoon has been vigorous over coastal Andhra Pradesh and weak over Rayalaseema. Extremely heavy rain occurred at isolated places in West Godavari district. Very heavy rain occurred at isolated places in East Godavari and Krishna districts and heavy rain occurred at isolated places in Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and Guntur districts.

Rain occurred at most places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and at isolated places over Rayalaseema. The chief amounts of rainfall (in cm) received during the last 24 hours, ending 8.30 a.m. on Monday, are: Koida (West Godavari) 39, Kukunoor (West Godavari) 29, Velairpad (West Godavari) 28, Tiruvuru (Krishna) 19, Vararamachandrapur (East Godavari) 16, Kunavaram and Chintur (East Godavari) 15 each, Koyyalagudem and Bhimadole (West Godavari) 13 each, Nuzvid (Krishna), Chintalapudi (West Godavari) and Vizianagaram 11 each, Nandigama (Krishna), Gantyada (Vizianagaram) and Palakoderu (West Godavari) 10, Paleru Bridge (Krishna), Eluru (West Godavari), Visakhapatnam Airport, Vijayawada Airport (Krishna) and Bondapalle (Vizianagaram) 9 each, Atchampet (Guntur) and Tadepalligudem (West Godavari) 8, Mentada (Vizianagaram), Narsapuram (West Godavari), Bobbili (Vizianagaram), Prakasam Barrage (Krishna), Gajapathinagaram (Vizianagaram), Vijayawada (Krishna) and Bhimavaram (West Godavari) 7 each, Nellimarla (Vizianagaram), Palakonda (Srikakulam), Mangalagiri (Guntur), Visakhapatnam and Gudivada (Krishna) 6 each 5.
