Heavy rain leave Anantapur in dark

Heavy downpour coupled with gushing winds lashed Anantapur on Friday threw the normal life of gear. Citizens had a tough time owing the power failure, with the town plunging into darkness.

Heavy wind followed by the downpour that began around 6:30 p.m. caught the citizens unawares, with many were stranded on their way home and at shops. Power supply was off the grid before trees and electric poles gave in to the wind, plunging the entire town into darkness.

As the downpour continued, roadside drains swelled up inundating the roads which were blocked by uprooted trees and electric poles. Several electric transformers were damaged by trees and poles. “Heavy wind shattered window panes of several building,said A. Madhu, a commuter.
