June 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The High Court on Monday allowed the government to go ahead with its process of paying compensation to farmers displaced by the right bank canal of the Polavaram project in West Godavari and Krishna districts. A division bench, comprising Justice R Subhash Reddy and Justice A Shankar Narayana, heard a writ appeal filed by the State Government against a stay of its land acquisition proceedings. The stay was granted when many Polavaram farmers challenged the proceedings on various grounds. Challenging the stay, the government told the court that  all the affected farmers in West Godavari had agreed to receive Rs 31 lakh per acre as compensation and in Krishna district most of the farmers had agreed to Rs 36 lakh per acre.
