BJP State president and Visakhapatnam MP K. Haribabu has urged Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to take steps to appoint a Governor exclusively for Andhra Pradesh at the earliest.
In a letter to the Union Minister, Mr. Haribabu said the Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana was functioning from Hyderabad.
“There is a strong feeling and desire in the minds of the people of Andhra Pradesh to have a Governor exclusively for the newlyformed State, which will enable the smooth functioning of the administration,” he said in the letter dated January 11, which was released to the Press on Tuesday.
A few days ago, BJP Floor leader in Assembly P. Vishnu Kumar Raju voiced the demand, saying there was delay in the Governor giving his ascent to the NALA Act, and wanted a Governor for the State.
Mr. Haribabu wrote that with the people of Andhra Pradesh desiring that the State administration should function from Vijayawada, the Chief Minister shifted his office from Hyderabad. Since then, the new administration had been functioning from Vijayawada.
“Later, Amaravati was announced as the new capital. With the construction of the temporary Secretariat, the administration shifted there. There is also a demand for division of High Court of the two States functioning in Hyderabad. A separate HC should be established for A.P.,” he said.
