Naidu releases Rs. 488 cr. for canal works

Collector Siddarth Jain on Tuesday said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu released Rs. 488 crore for works of the Kuppam branch canal of the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi project in the district. He said a government order (N0. 333) was issued on Monday. He said works of branch canal would commence from Appanapalle village near Punganur branch canal. The Kuppam canal envisaged supply of drinking water to 4.02 lakh people, besides consolidation of irrigation water source for about 7,000 through linkage of 110 village tanks.

Mr Jain said the second phase of Handri-Neeva project in Chittoor district is set to provide irrigation waters to 1.82 lakh acres, and drinking water to 10 lakh population.

Summer storage tanks would be constructed with linkage of the Handri-Neeva project for the benefit of Madanapalle town, he said.
