Government Whip and Rajampet MLA Meda Mallikarjuna Reddy celebrated his 51st birthday here on Monday and announced donation of his eyes after death. He also organised a free ophthalmic check-up and blood donation camp at the Roads and Buildings Department guest house at Rajampet on the occasion.
Blood donation camp held
Mr. Mallikarjuna Reddy also inaugurated an ophthalmic camp organised by Sankara Eye Hospital, Bengaluru, and a blood donation camp conducted by the Indian Red Cross Society, Kadapa. Speaking on the occasion, he promised to strive for the development of Rajampet, which lacked proper infrastructure. “Proposals have been forwarded to the government to sanction funds to augment water supply to the Rajampet segment,” Mr. Reddy said.
Cost of surgery
The Whip called upon people to donate their eyes to provide sight to the visually impaired. He added that Meda Foundation, headed by him, would bear the cost of surgery and arrange transportation for patients who were referred to undergo eye surgeries in Bengaluru.
Opthalmician P. Ashish and ENT specialist K.S. Sukanya examined patients from Nandalur, Vontimitta, Pullampet and Penagalur mandals and gave away medicines free of cost to them. They also referred some patients to the hospital at Bengaluru for undergoing surgery. Rajampet Government Hospital Superintendent Vijayalakshmi was present. As many as 80 people donated blood during the blood donation camp.
