Govt. urged to withdraw G.O. on water diversion

October 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - KURNOOL:

Rayalaseema Janata Party president K. Satyanarayana Gupta on Saturday demanded that the State government withdraw G.O. No. 621 issued last month to divert Krishna waters from Kundu river at Pamulapadu in Kurnool district to Nellore district.

Mr. Gupta, who staged a sit-in protest at the Gandhi statue in front of Kurnool Collectorate, seeking creation of separate Rayalaseema along with Bellary district of Karnataka, sought construction of Gundrevula reservoir to store 20 tmcft of water.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu should discuss with his Telangana counterpart K. Chandrasekhar Rao on the reservoir, as it would benefit Mahabubnagar district in Telangana and Kurnool district as well, he said. He also wanted construction of Vedavathi reservoir with 10 tmc storage capacity at Molagapalle, Halaharvi reservoir on Hagari river and completion of the Gorakallu reservoir.
