Governor gathers info on ‘cash-for-vote’ case

AP officials ‘complain’ that Telangana police are tapping phones of TDP leaders

June 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated November 17, 2021 01:06 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Amid the raging controversy over the ‘cash-for-vote’ case involving TDP MLA A. Revanth Reddy, Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan is understood to have gathered information from the AP and TS Chief Ministers and top officials of the two States.

Ahead of his proposed visit to New Delhi from June 9, Mr. Narasimhan, according to sources, collected information from Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, when the latter called on him twice in the span of three days. Simultaneously, the Governor also heard the version of AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who met him on Sunday evening.

It is learnt that the Governor not only spoke to the two Chief Ministers but also got a briefing from the DGPs, Anti-Corruption Bureau and Intelligence chiefs of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

“He has collected information not only from the Chief Ministers but also from officials too,” sources told The Hindu adding that the Governor may brief the Union Government, if they make any query on the issue.

Reliable sources said Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao and top police officials, during their meetings with the Governor, categorically maintained that they have the incriminating evidence to nail the TDP leadership.

The Telangana officials, it appears, sounded the Governor that they could proceed further based on the evidence.

On the other hand, the AP officials reportedly complained that the Telangana police were tapping the phones of TDP leaders. They also gave their side of version to the Governor claiming that an attempt was being made to malign AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu by dragging his name into the ‘Cash for Vote’ case.

They went to the extent of complaining that law and order subject has to be handled by the Governor in tune with the AP Reorganisation Act as the Telangana Government was misusing its powers.

Meanwhile, the Governor is leaving for New Delhi on June 9 to meet the Union Ministers. He is likely to seek an appointment with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He is scheduled to meet the Union Home Minister and give a report on the one-year rule in TS and AP after bifurcation. According to official sources, he is planning to stay in New Delhi on June 10 and 11 but may extend his visit by a day.

Interestingly, Mr. Naidu will also reach Delhi on June 9 to interact with Chinese investors and meet some Union Ministers. Similarly, Telangana Chief Minister is also planning a visit to New Delhi on June 12.
