Government urged to open counselling centres for ryots

October 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - KAKINADA:

The Kisan Cell of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee on Friday demanded that the State government open counselling centres for farmers in all the revenue divisional headquarters.

Expressing concern over the increasing number of farmer suicides, Kisan Cell convener Satti Krishna Chaitanya Reddy held the State government responsible for the scenario.

“As the State government failed to fulfil its promise of completing waiver of farm loans, the farmers are now at the crossroads. They are not getting fresh loans from the banks but they are forced to pay the dues,” he said, adding that it would be a welcome move if the government genuinely waives the entire loan instantly.

“Setting up counselling centres is the need of the hour to infuse confidence among the farmers who are in distress,” he said.
