A.P. Govt. announces Rs.5 lakh to kin of hooch tragedy victims

The State Government has announced Rs.5 lakh ex-gratia to the kin of each of the five victims, who died after consuming spurious liquor in the city on Monday and also ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.

The State Government has announced Rs.5 lakh ex-gratia to the kin of each of the five victims, who died after consuming spurious liquor in the city on Monday and also ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.

As many as 34 persons fell sick after consuming liquor at Swarna Bar in Krishnalanka area in Vijayawada. Five persons died and the remaining were undergoing treatment in four private hospitals.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who visited the hospital and inquired about the health condition of the victims, said that the State Government would pay Rs. 5 lakh each to the kin of the deceased in the incident.

Government will provide better treatment to the persons who were undergoing treatment in different hospitals, said Mr. Naidu and inquired from the doctors about the health condition of the patients.

Magisterial inquiry ordered

The Government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the alleged hooch tragedy in which five persons died and 29 others were hospitalised in the city on Monday.

Krishna District Collector Babu A. has said that a magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the tragedy and Vijayawada Sub-Collector G. Srujana has been appointed as inquiry officer.

“The Sub-Collector will conduct a detailed inquiry into the spurious liquor deaths and submit a report, which would be sent to the government,” said the Collector.

The Prohibition and Excise Department officials are conducting a departmental inquiry and the Police officials are investigating into the case. “The inquiry report is expected in a week and action would be taken against the persons responsible for the incident,” said Mr. Babu.
