Minister for Energy Kala Venkata Rao and AP Warehouse Corporation chairman LVSRK Prasad on Tuesday said the government was constructing new godowns to store 4 lakh metric tonnes of food grains and other agriculture commodities, seeds, manures and fertilisers. They said 10 lakh metric tonnes of storage facility would be available in the State after the construction of new godowns.

Mr. Venkata Rao formally inaugurated new two godowns each having 5000 metric tonnes of capacity at Bhamini. The entire premises with 57,200 sft is expected to help local farmers store their produce and save transport charges. Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Venkata Rao said farmers would be able to get credit facility from banks by pledging the goods stored in new godowns. He said the government was helping farmers in all aspects while recalling the waiver of ₹ 24,000 crore farm loans.

Mr. Prasad said the government would take steps to construct new godowns with 80,000 metric tonnes of capacity very soon as farmers were facing many difficulties due to lack of sufficient storage facility in their vicinity.

AP Warehouse Corporation regional manager D. Satyam assured to construct more godowns in Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts also. Srikakulam Civil Supplies Corporation manager R.Venkateswara Rao said proposals were being prepared for construction of new godowns in all mandals.
