The State-level general body meeting of the Girijan Aikya Vedika was organised at Girijan Bhavan at MVP Colony here on Sunday.

The participants, who came from all districts of the State, discussed the problems being faced by tribal people and decided to take them to the notice of the government.

The vedika adopted resolutions among other things: seeking implementation of the rule of reservation in the private sector also as many of the government organisations are being privatised, opposing the inclusion of Boya, Fishermen, Vaddera and other BC castes in the ST list and demanded that the government immediately withdraw its decision in this regard, strict implementation of the Prevention of SC, ST (Atrocities) Act for prompt punishment of those guilty of raping tribal women and to provide speedy justice to the victims.

The meeting also sought declaration of health emergency in the Agency areas and to initiate measures to prevent the death of tribal people due to seasonal diseases like malaria, dengue and anthrax, strict implementation of the 1/70 Act and abstain from diluting the Act to allow non-tribal people to own land in the tribal areas. The meeting warned the government any such moves would be resisted tooth and nail.

‘Set up university’

The meeting sought immediate establishment of the Tribal University and according priority to eligible tribal people and punishment of those found guilty of producing fake certificates in a bid to deprive ST people of their right.

Vedika founder Vivek Vinayak said that the Adivasi plenary would be organised at Amaravati on September 11.

The Adivasi Declaration would be made at the plenary.
