The inter-State coordination meeting of the police of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana, Odisha and Chhattisgarh has taken a decision to launch a joint operation to tackle the threat of left-wing extremism and curb their activities in view of the forthcoming general elections.

The meeting, organised at a hotel in Tirupati on Tuesday, was attended by Director-Generals of Police (DGPs) R.P. Thakur (A.P.); Neelamani Raju (Karnataka), T.K. Rajendran (Tamil Nadu), Principal Secretaries (Home) A.R. Anuradha (A.P.) and Rajiv Trivedi (Telangana), Additional DGP R.P. Koche (Odisha) and DIG P. Sundarrajan from Chhattisgarh.

Briefing the media, Mr. Thakur saidit was decided to undertake joint operations against the left-wing extremists, apart from sharing intelligence network of the States, so that any kind of threat could be scuttled effectively.

Other aspects discussed included mobilisation of forces, focus on inter-State criminals and offenders, surveillance on flow of unaccounted cash, freebies, liquor, weapons in the States at the border check-posts. Services of helicopters and speed boats would be exchanged during critical times.

Security meetings

The DGP said that regular security meetings would be conducted at the district levels involving Deputy IGs and SPs of the bordering States. The services of the Coastal Security Force would be utilised optimally.
