South Central Railway General Manager Vinod Kumar Yadav said on Tuesday that the railway stations in Vijayawada, Guntur, Guntakal and Kurnool would redeveloped before March 2019 on the lines of the one planned at the Tirupati railway station.

Addressing the media on the sidelines of a meeting with the MPs under the Vijayawada, Guntur and Guntakal divisions here, Mr. Vinod said the bid for redevelopment of Tirupati railway station at a cost of ₹400 crore was on the day.

“Redevelopment includes furnishing world-class amenities and construction of an eight-storeyed budget hotel on the Tirupati station premises,” he said.

“The redevelopment of the four other stations will be completed by March next,” he said, and added that all the projects in the State were going on well with the State government’s cooperation.

Amaravati connectivity

He said the SCR was awaiting sanction of the Amaravati connectivity as a detailed estimation had already been sent to the Railway Board.

“The Guntur-Guntakal electrification work has been completed and the doubling works are in progress. Also, the Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam tripling works are in progress and a 42-km new line will be commissioned between Nadikudi and Srikalahasthi. The Obulavaripalli and Krishnapatnam new line is nearing completion,” he added.

Mr. Vinod said the SCR had completed a record 608-km electrification in the last fiscal and was planning to electrify another 600 km this year towards realising the plan of electrifying the entire zone in the next two years.

According to the officials, SCR has served over 16.3 crore passengers so far this fiscal and earned ₹5,886 crore, which is 12.25% more compared to the earnings during the corresponding period the previous year.
