Four IAF helicopters kept ready for contingency

While over 90,000 policemen, including 15,500 Home Guards, were deployed for the first phase of polling to be held in 10 districts on Wednesday, four Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopters were kept ready for contingency.

DGP B. Prasada Rao said in a press release that 158 companies of para-military forces and 59 companies of A.P. Special Police were also deployed. Polling will be held in 17 Lok Sabha and 119 Assembly constituencies in Telangana, soon to become the 29 State of the country.

Since the model code of conduct came into force, police seized Rs. 122.94 crore from different persons during surprise checks conducted at different points in the State. Till April 28, Rs. 43.90 crore was returned to persons after they furnished documents confirming the source of the money. Gold weighing 89.3 kg and 821 kg of silver were also seized.
