Forest staff permitted to shoot wild boars

October 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Forest Minister Jogu Ramanna on Monday issued orders empowering forest officials to shoot wild boars as they were destroying crops across Telangana.

At a meeting with senior forest officials, presided by him, Mr. Ramanna noted that the menace of wild boars had become vexatious for farmers. Hence, he said he found the need for farmers themselves or forest staff to shoot the animals.

He ordered officials not to book any cases if the wild boars were shot. Mr. Ramanna also sanctioned Rs 55 lakh for monkey catching by a specially trained team. The team will catch monkeys in affected villages and leave them in distant forest.
