Forest officials fire in air after attack by red sanders workers

120 workers were felling red sanders; 2 officials injured

Forest officials engaged in combing operations in the forest area between Gadela and Y. Kota in Obulavaripalle mandal in Kadapa district, opened three rounds of fire in the air late on Saturday night to quell a large group of around 120 workers felling red sander logs.

The forest officials fired in the air when they were attacked by the workers who pelted stones at them, Rajampet Divisional Forest Officer S. Venkatesh told The Hindu on Sunday.

Two forest officials sustained injuries in the stone pelting.
