The draft on National Policy on Marine Fisheries, 2016, lays emphasis on achieving Blue Revolution by ensuring sustainable fishing and maximum exploration of ocean wealth.
The policy aims at ushering in Blue Revolution to ensure sustainable utilisation of fisheries wealth from marine and other aquatic resources by improving lives and livelihood of fishers and their families, CMFRI Director A. Gopalakrishnan said.
In his introductory remarks at the stakeholders’ meeting, he said they would finalise the policy on the basis of feedback received from the representatives of the industry.
Senior official from Ministry of Agriculture Sanjay Pandey, Fisheries Survey of India Zonal Director L. Ramalingam, Deputy Director of Fisheries, Odisha Basant Kumar Das and others attended.
The policy also envisages legislative measures for regulating fisheries in the Exclusive Economic Zone.
