Flu suspect being treated

Close on the heels of the death of a 27-year-old man with symptoms of swine flu, a 35-year-old man is being treated for “suspected swine flu” at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) here, according to RIMS Director B. Anjaiah.

“The patient, Sivakumar from Singarayakonda, is being treated in the Swine flu isolation ward of the hospital, and swab samples were sent to the Institute of Preventive Medicine in Hyderabad,” Dr. Anjaiah said. Sivakumar, a driver, suffered from fever, cold cough, severe throat pain, body pain and diarrhoea. “We have put Sivakumar’s wife Dhanalakshmi, their two sons, aged 14 years and 13 years, on prophylactic treatment,” he added.

District Medical and Health Officer J. Yasmin said a fever survey was conducted at J. Pangalur as also at Tangutur.
