Police on Tuesday nabbed a five-member gang of kidnappers and recovered from them part of the ransom extracted from two dealers including surgical implants from Hyderabad at Peddaraveedu near Markapur in Prakasam district.

Producing the accused before the media, Superintendent of Police Ch. Srikanth, flanked by ASP Rama Naik and in-charge Markapur DSP V. Ratnam, said the kingpin of the gang, Subramaniam alias Phani (30), a former sales representative, had posed himself as a doctor in the government hospital and lured two surgical implants dealers with orders worth crores of rupees.

The SP said the gangsters threatened to eliminate one of the dealers, K. Jaganmohan Reddy and let him go after he arranged for Rs. 4.70 lakh through his relatives and friends in November.

Adopting the same modus operandi, another dealer Suryanarayana was forced to arrange Rs. 8 lakh for his release, the SP said. The others arrested were Nagaiah (32), Suryanarayana Raju (30), Sk. Meeravali (30), the SP added. One of the gangsters, V. Chinna Veerasamy was a member of the notorious Munna gang and was an accused in four murder cases.
