Five killed, 24 injured in two accidents on Agency ghat roads

Five persons died and over 25 were injured in two major road accidents at two different places on the ghat roads in Visakhapatnam agency on Tuesday.

In one incident, three passengers died on the spot and over 20 were injured, including five severely, after the bus in which they were travelling overturned on a ghat road near Vantlamamidi village under Paderu police limits.

The incident reportedly took place around 12.30 a.m.

According to reports, the deceased were identified as J. Polamma (63), B. Denamma (60) and R. Nagamani (65).

According to Paderu inspector G. Prem Kumar, there were 42 passengers in the bus, all belonging to various places in Kakinada. They were returning to Kakinada from Paderu.

About three to five suffered severe injuries, while rest received minor injuries. After first-aid at the Anakapalle area hospital, passengers with minor injuries have been discharged. Driver Ch. Ashok, who is said to be critical, has been shifted to a private hospital in Visakhapatnam.

Auto hits bike

In another incident, two persons died while four others were injured when an autorickshaw collided with a two-wheeler, on a ghat road near Chintuvanipalem under Koyyuru Police limits.

The deceased were identified as V. Balaram (63) and M. Prasad (27), both residents of Koyyuru mandal.

According to Koyyuru sub-inspector Rukmangdhar Rao, it was a very steep ghat road. The autorickshaw driver might have lost control and hit the two-wheeler which was going ahead.

Police said three persons on the bike fell into the valley, which is about 15 mt deep. One of them, M. Balaram, died on the spot. Meanwhile, the autorickshaw also overturned and a passenger, M Prasad, died with severe injuries.

Bus hits trolley

A few passengers and an RTC bus driver were injured when the bus hit a trolley vehicle, near Penugula Dharmavaram under Yelamanchali rural police limits, in Visakhapatnam district. Police said that the incident was reported around 5.30 a.m.
