A meeting presided over by Major Industries Minister J. Geetha Reddy held at Hyderabad on Wednesday failed to take a final decision on the prices of sugarcane that has to be paid to farmers in Medak district.

The Minister has reportedly directed the representatives of the managements of sugar industries to come forward with an offer price of Rs.2,700 per quintal without fail. The farmers urged the Minister to fix the price at Rs.3,000 per tonne as the cost of production has increased drastically.

Industries Principal Secretary Pradeep Chandra said that sugar industries should come forward to pay a better price to the farmers as good yields were expected.

This is the fifth meeting held to decide the price of the sugarcane.
