Fertilizer distribution linked to Aadhaar

The Andhra Pradesh government is rolling out Aadhaar-enabled distribution of fertilizers through Electronic Point of Sales (E-Pos) machines from Friday.

The subsidy would be credited to the manufacturers of fertilizers, only after the farmers procure the fertilizer from the dealer. In Guntur district alone, the government has paid subsidy to the tune of ₹650 crore.

In Guntur district, 1,550 dealers who have got e-pos machines, would now be selling the fertilizers only after the farmers enter their Aadhar numbers and thumb impressions on e-pos machines.

Joint Director, Agriculture, Vijaya Bharathi said that subsidized fertilizers would now be delivered to farmers only through the Aadhaar-enabled e-pos machines.
