Farmers from river-front villages write to Pranab, Modi

Over 500 land owners opposing pooling of their lands at Penumaka, Undavalli villages for construction of the capital on Monday took out a procession and later posted letters to President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking their intervention.

“We have posted registered letters with signatures of 3,700 land owners to both the President and the Prime Minister. We have also sent photographs of multi cropped fertile land and have written on the impact on the livelihood of land owners. We are inviting the Prime Minister to come and see for himself the issues facing the land owners in river-front villages,” said Naresh Reddy, a land owner from Penumaka.

120 varieties

More than 120 varieties of horticultural crops, fruit yielding tress and flowering plants are cultivated in the villages in Thullur mandal.

Land owners expect that the movement to reclaim their land would get a boost after the visit of Medha Patkar on April 9.
