Farmer killed in road accident, four hurt

A farmer was killed on the spot, while four others were injured, two of them seriously, when their van was hit head-on by a speeding lorry near Gudipala mandal headquarters, 10 km from here, on Sunday evening.

The Gudipala police said that a group of farmers were returning to Punganur in the district, after selling their vegetable stocks in Chennai, while a lorry from Chittoor to Chennai collided with it. The impact left a farmer Narayanaswamy (45) killed, while four other farmers were injured.

The condition of two of them was said to be serious. The police rushed the injured to the Government General Hospital at Chittoor district headquarters, and were later shifted to Christian Medical College Hospital in Vellore in Tamil Nadu. The lorry driver was arrested. A case was registered.
