e-PoS to bring in transparency in PDS

The district administration is aiming at making the Public Distribution System fool proof by intervention of technology.

Joint Collector Ch. Sridhar said here on Thursday that `e-PoS,’ system was being introduced in the PDS at 566 fair price shops in 13 municipalities from April 1.

“We want to make sure that only genuine beneficiaries would be given the provisions under PDS. The system is based on bio metric system in which any member of eligible families would be required to put his thumb impression on the screen of the machine. The machine generates the details of provisions allotted for the month. All dealers have been trained in the operation of the machine,’’ said Mr. Sridhar.

The Joint Collector also said that National Food Security Act would be enforced in the district from April 1. Under the Act, every member of eligible BPL families would be provided with five kg of rice each. There are 12.86 lakh BPL families in the district but under Food Security Act, 34.28 lakh members would be covered, the JC said.

People could also register their complaints and suggestions on the free toll number- 18004251166.
