‘Ensure food quality in Anganwadi centres’

Officials told to enlighten priests, khajis and pastors on evils of child marriage

Don’t compromise on the quality of nutritious food supply to Anganwadi centres and optimally utilise the sanctioned funds, A.P. Assembly Committee on Welfare of Women, Children, Disabled and Old Aged chairperson M. Geetha told officials on Wednesday.

Addressing a review meeting in Kadapa Collectorate Sabha Bhavan, the committee members Satyaprabha, Lakshmi, Suguna and B. Nageswara Rao told CDPOs to return the eggs if they weighed less than the prescribed weight.

Ms. Geetha and Ms. Satyaprabha told officials to curb child marriages by enlightening priests, khajis and pastors.

Officials told the committee that not a single case of ragging was registered in Kadapa district.

Collector K.V. Ramana said the Central government chose Kadapa district among 100 districts in the country to curb foeticides under “Beti Bachao - Beti Padhao” scheme.

Awareness is being created at the gram panchayat level and among girls, he added.

The district has a women police station and proposals were beign drafted to set up a women police station in each police sub-division, police officials said.

DRDA Project Director B. Anil Kumar Reddy said Kadapa district stood first on disbursing loans of Rs. 48.32 crore under Stree Nidhi scheme.

He explained about loans given to self-help group members and pension disbursal.

The committee chairperson told the Collector to arrange a rest room on the Collectorate premises for physically-challenged, pregnant women and lactating mothers who come to the grievance cell meeting on Mondays. Mr. Ramana assured to make the arrangement after shifting to the new Collectorate complex.

Joint Collector Swetha Tiotia, ICDS Project Director Raghava Rao and other officials participated.
