MCT going in the right direction, says Minister

Ahead of the October 2 deadline to make the city plastic-free, Industries Minister N. Amarnath Reddy on Thursday urged people to take up the responsibility of ending plastic pollution for the sake of future generations.

Speaking at a workshop on ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’, organised by the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (Zonal Office – Kurnool) at the Sri Venkateswara University (SVU), Mr. Reddy highlighted problems created by plastic and sought people’s support for the State government’s initiatives aimed at ending plastic pollution. He extolled efforts of the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) for striving to make the city plastic-free before the deadline. He said once the temple city achieved the status, it would be a model for other cities in the country. Besides this, Mr. Reddy said the State government was according importance to industries that did not pollute the environment.

Reduce, reuse

and recycle

With Tirupati MLA M. Suguna, TUDA Chairman G. Narasimha Yadav, MCT Commissioner V. Vijay Rama Raju, Mr. Reddy stressed the importance of 'Reduce, Reuse and Recycle', and later visited stalls showcasing alternatives to plastic.

APPCB's Chairman B.S.S. Prasad, Member Secretary Vivek Yadav, Joint Chief Environmental Engineer (Kurnool) T. Rajendra Reddy and Environmental Engineer (Tirupati) A. Narendra Babu took part.
