Justice K. C. Bhanu of the High Court on Tuesday said that the two petitions regarding the bail of the main accused in the Emaar case will be heard on Thursday.
It may be recalled that the CBI filed a petition seeking cancellation of bail granted to suspended IAS officer B. P. Acharya. Counsel appearing for Acharya sought time and the judge posted the matter to Thursday. The petition filed by Koneru Prasad, another accused in the Emaar case, seeking bail came up for hearing on Tuesday. This will also be heard on Thursday.
Bail cancelled
Justice Bhanu cancelled bail granted to Mohammed Asgar Ali, prime accused in the murder case of Haren Pandya, former Home Minister of Gujarat. He is in custody of the Hyderabad police in a different case.
The case pertains to Asgar Ali helping Mirza Fayyaz Baig escape from Nampally courts. Fayyaz was killed by security forces in Kashmir later.
The criminal court had granted bail to Asgar Ali and the police filed a petition in High Court seeking cancellation of the bail. The police said that Asgar was involved in several cases, including a bomb blast at Kakatiya restaurant in Moghalpura in 1991 and two cases in Nalgonda district. While cancelling the bail, the judge directed the lower court to complete the trial within two months.
Permission for questioning
Justice R. Subhash Reddy permitted authorities to question Rakesh Babu, brother-in-law of suspended IAS officer Y. Srilakshmi, who is an accused in the illegal mining case by Gali Janardhan Reddy. The judge was dealing with a case filed by Rakesh Babu complaining that the police were harassing him. The judge said that the officers can question him but in the presence of his advocate.
