An elderly couple committed suicide by consuming pesticide following a tiff, at Sivarampalle Santhampalle of Shantipuram mandal on Friday night.

Muneppa (76) and Narayanamma (68), both farmers, had been living near their farm for the last few months, after they left their house following a quarrel with their three sons over a domestic issue. However, the sons kept sending them money every month. Narayanamma had been suffering from uterus cancer.

On Friday evening, Muneppa, known for his short-temper, picked up a quarrel with his wife, saying that all the money sent by their sons was being spent on her ailment, making it difficult to afford to all other household expenditures.

Unable to digest this, Narayanamma consumed pesticide. The couple were rushed to the Government Hospital at Kuppam where both died while undergoing treatment.

A case has been registered.
