Deputy Chief Minister K.E. Krishnamurthy on Friday released 100 cusecs of Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi water from the Pandikona reservoir left canal to the Gajuladinne project at Pathikonda to meet the drinking water needs of Devanakonda, Pathikonda, Kodumur and Gonegandla mandals.
Mr. Krishnamurthy said drinking water scarcity would be mitigated in due course, as the Gajuladinne project had a storage capacity of 1.25 tmcft. Promising release of Rs. 12 crore for releasing water from the distributary channel next year, he said 1,500 acres were acquired for the purpose. “It will help in the supply of drinking water to Pandikona, Kodumur and Gonegandla areas, while irrigation water can be drawn using motors,” he added.
District Collector Ch. Vijayamohan said water would be released soon from the left canal of the Pathikonda reservoir, which had a capacity of 1.12 tmcft, to irrigate 10,000 acres, and to 50,000 acres from the right canal.
