TGV Trust chairman and former Minister T.G. Venkatesh and Geeta Prachara Sangham have been organising the festivities in Kurnool for the last 14 years. People of various communities and faiths have been participating in the festivities, Mr. Venkatesh said.

Congress MLC M. Sudhakar Babu, District Collector Ch. Vijayamohan, SP A. Ravikrishna and former Mayor Raghurami Reddy lit a lamp and offered prayers to the idol of Durga Devi idol before formally launching the immersion programme on the river bank.

A festive atmosphere prevailed with youngsters dancing to the drum beats as the idols were taken in procession through the main thoroughfares of the city.

There was a heavy turnout of devotees at the Srisailam temple since the early hours of Saturday, who had come for a darshan of Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy and Sri Bhramaramba Devi. As part of the crowd control measures, the temple authorities stopped darshan in the sanctum sanctorum and arranged ‘alankara darsanam’. The devotees had to wait for two to three hours in queues to have darshan.
