Drought: TDP flays Sonia for not visiting AP

'Except for lip sympathy by ruling party leaders no relief measures were taken up to provide succour'

April 30, 2012 12:18 pm | Updated 12:18 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has criticised Congress party president Sonia Gandhi for not undertaking a visit to Andhra Pradesh even as about one-third mandals are reeling under severe drought.

Farmers across the State were in deep distress and students and youth were ending lives in Telangana seeking statehood to the region but the Congress leadership was unmoved by their plight, senior TDP leader Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy said here on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference, Mr. Chandrasekhar alleged that the State Government had washed off its hands of the issue simply by declaring 875 mandals drought-affected.
