Tributes paid to the Constitution’s architect across the State on his 127th birth anniversary

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s 127 birth anniversary was celebrated by different political parties, Dalit organizations, oil companies, Nannaya University and NGOs on Saturday.

In Rajamahendravaram, his birth anniversary was organized at Dr. Ambedkar statue near Gokavaram bus stand, where MP M. Muralimohan, Mayor P. Rajani Sesha Sai, Sub-Collector C.M. Saikantha Varma, MLC Adireddy Apparao, MLAs Akula Satyanarayana, Gorantla Chowdary, GUDA Chairman Ganni Krishna, former MP G.V. Harsha Kumar and Dalit leaders Korukonda Chiranjeevi, Babu Rajendraprasad, garlanded the statue.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Muralimohan said that the society had to remember that Dr. Ambedkar fought against caste discrimination and for the development of downtrodden by giving them education.

He recalled that how Dr. Ambedkar worked along with Mahatma Gandhi and other leaders and later played a key role in writing Indian constitution.

Mayor Ms. Rajani said that youth should take Dr. Ambedkar as role model because he pursued higher studies despite many odds and suppression by the society of that time.

Mr. Akula Satyanarayana, and Mr. Adireddy Apparao spoke.

At Nannaya university, Vice-Chancellor Prof. M. Mutyala Naidu, professors and others paid rich tributes to the architect of the Indian constitution.

Blood donation camp

ONGC Rajahmundry Asset led by D.M.R. Sekhar, Executive Director and Asset Manager, paid homage to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, by garlanding his statue in the Ambedkar Park at the Base Complex premises here.

He was accompanied by Durga Bhavani Sekhar, President, ONGC Officers’ Mahila Samiti, Rajahmundry.

Mr Sekhar and Mrs Bhavani jointly inaugurated the 16 Mega Blood Donation Camp and financial assistance cheques worth around ₹10 lakh were given to the beneficiaries under SC ST Component Plan.

In GAIL office, Chief General Manager R.K. Das paid floral tributes to Dr. Ambedkar along with his team of officials including deputy general manager (HR) Mohan Kondaiah and others.

‘Saubhagya’

In another programme, Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana-“Saubhagya” was launched by BJP MLA Akula Satyanarayana under which he distributed LED bulbs at ₹50 to the poor.

Statue in State capital

Special Correspondent from Kakinada adds:

Nimmakayala Chinarajappa, Deputy Chief Minister of AP State participated in Dr. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary celebrations at Ambedkar Bhavan here.

He said the government would a 125 feet statue of Dr Ambedkar in the new State capital Amaravati.

District Collector Karthikeya Misra, Mayor Sunkara Pavani and Reddy Subrahmnayam, Deputy Chairman, AP Legislative Council spoke. Mr. Misra said that ₹40 crores bank linkage was given to SCs in the district last year and ₹137 crores was planned for this year.

Kakinada city MLA V. Venkateswararao was present.

‘Dalits feeling insecure’

Cutting across party lines, several leaders alleged that the NDA government was trying to weaken the strong laws including SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act-1989 as part of its conspiracy against dalits in the country.

The issue of attacks on dalits became the focal point when TDP, YSRCP, Congress and other parties observed Dr. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary. Former Minister Kondru Muralimohan offered floral tributes to Ambedkar’s portrait at Indira Vignan Bhavan.

Former minister Tammineni Sitaram, Srikakulam District Congress Committee President Dola Jagan, senior dalit leader Banna Ramu and others spoke. Minister K.Atchannaidu, Srikakulam MP KInjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Collector K.Dhananjaya Reddy and others participated in Ambedkar’s birth anniversary celebrations in ZP meeting hall.

Several railway officials participated in Ambedkar’s birth anniversary celebrations on Saturday at Vizianagaram Railway Station. Station Manager A.Omkar Murthy said Dr.Ambedkar’s ideology would be relevant for many centuries and asked officials and employees to study his life history and understand his sacrifices to the country.
