‘Set up ward for pregnant women’

In a move that would benefit patients from rural areas, District Collector P.S. Pradyumna directed officials of the health department to start a dialysis unit at the Government District Headquarters Hospital here from August 16.

At a review meeting with the faculty of the hospital and Apollo Hospitals (which took over the Government hospital under clinical management) here, Mr. Pradyumna said the unit in Chittoor was need of the hour, as hundreds of patients from the western mandals were forced to go to Tirupati and Kuppam for treatment.

He said, “The unit would be equipped with six beds, available in three shifts for 18 patients every day. The capacity would be increased in the future.”

‘Supervise OPDs’

He said apart from the unit, the hospital authorities should set up an emergency unit for pregnant women from the same day. “The vital wings of outpatient department and casualty ward should be under supervision. Dereliction of duty would be dealt with sternly,” he said, adding the authorities should consider setting up a trauma care unit.
