DGP offers police protection to telcos

Mr. Ramudu dismissive of the criticism over the case

June 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Director General of Police J.V. Ramudu on Monday said that the telecom service providers, who were served notices in connection with the alleged phone-tapping by the Telangana Government, would be provided police protection against any threats.

“If anybody threatens the telecom operators, they must feel free to lodge complaints with us. We can give them protection,” Mr. Ramudu said, after reviewing the progress of the ongoing investigation of the case with the senior police officers here. Several telecom service providers were issued notices by the AP Police, after several FIRs were registered against Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao in the alleged phone tapping case at different police stations across the State

Mr. Ramudu further said the telecom companies have nothing to fear as they are the witnesses only in the case. Asked about the criticism over the telecom companies being served notices, the DGP was dismissive of the allegations.

“The Special Investigation Team (SIT) is probing the cases. There are 80 to 90 cases and they all can be combined and a comprehensive investigation can be taken up,” Mr. Ramudu added.
