While Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has taken it upon himself to complete the Polavaram project, Minister for Water Resources Devineni Umamaheswara Rao has taken up the job of showcasing it.

The Minister never fails to invite people from all walks of life to visit the Polavaram dam site and see for themselves the grandeur of the project. He says engineering students and farmers in particular should see the project under construction. On Tuesday, the Minister flagged off five buses filled with farmers from his office in Governorpet to the project site. The number of people visiting the dam site is now part of the weekly PowerPoint presentation and is available district-wise. While 27,315 persons visited the dam till the last week of June, 250 farmers went on Tuesday.

Mr. Rao told the media the Congress had no right to criticise the TDP with regard to development of North Andhra. While the TDP was trying to complete the project to ensure the districts got water, the Congress leaders were “throwing stones” despite the execution.

The Congress spent ₹1,798 crore for the three districts in 10 years but the TDP government had spent ₹5,907 crore in four years, he said.
