Denial of exam hall ticket triggers protest at Siddhartha college

Denial of hall tickets of degree first semester examinations to all the 380 students of Siddhartha Degree College at Yemmiganur triggered a protest on the college premises.

With Rayalaseema University refusing to issue hall tickets for the exam that began on Friday citing that the college lacked recognition, all 380 degree first year students and AISF functionaries staged a demonstration at the college.

When the angry students accused the college management of being at fault, authorities of the Siddhartha Degree College, which was set up this year, showed the demand drafts certifying that they had paid the exam fees of the students. The college’s name figures in the list of examination centres on the university website, they said, claiming that they were not at fault.

Police complaint filed

Thereupon, the AISF members proceeded to Yemmiganur police station to file a complaint against the Rayalaseema University Registrar Amarnath Reddy.

At this juncture, Yemmiganur Sub-Inspector Sankaraiah called up the RU Registrar and told him that a case would be registered, if the varsity did not resolved the issue.

The Registrar reportedly told the college authorities in the evening that they could go ahead with the semester exams from Saturday onwards.

The Registrar was said to have promised to permit conduct of Friday’s English paper subsequently. The Registrar was not available for comment.
