Naidu administers pledge to officials on need for saving energy

The State government is hopeful of saving energy to the tune of 500 MW daily, amounting to 12 million units, through the DSM (demand side management) based Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP).

The government had accordingly adopted a special mechanism on energy conservation with steps like implementation of energy efficiency programmes like the DELP. The commencement of steps for replacing inefficient sodium vapour streetlights with energy efficient LED (light emitting diode) lights was a first step in this direction.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu exhorted the people to adopt energy conservation measures and directed the district collectors who are chairmen of the district energy conservation committees to organise energy efficiency programmes. He said the government would intensify its efforts on ushering LED revolution by phasing out incandescent / inefficient bulbs (with less lighting per watt as compared to LED lights) and replacing them with LED bulbs that would ensure saving of 85 per cent energy and enable consumers to cut down on their energy bills.

The Chief Minister had formally launched the Energy Conservation Week on Sunday releasing posters brought out by the utilities in this regard. He administered pledge to officials concerned on the need for saving energy which was essential in view of the scarce resources like coal and natural gas. The officials were asked to create awareness among consumers on the need to switch over to LED bulbs, being provided by the Government at Rs. 10 each against their market value of Rs. 400.
