Decision on roadshows at UDF meeting: Thankachan

May 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:08 am IST - KOTTAYAM:

United Democratic Front (UDF) convener P.P. Thankachan has said that though the coalition partners are not sympathetic to the idea of postponing the various zonal roadshows, a final decision in this regard will be taken only at the UDF liaison committee meeting scheduled for Tuesday.

He was speaking to presspersons on the sidelines of a meeting of the central zone leadership of the Congress here on Monday. Leaders from Ernakulam, Kottayam, Idukki, and Alappuzha participated in the meeting.

On the stance taken by the Kerala Congress (M) regarding the conduct of the jathas in the light of the prolonged investigation into the bar licensing bribery charges against party chairman K.M. Mani, he said the demand from Mr. Mani for postponing the jathas on account of his personal inconvenience would also be on the agenda at Tuesday’s meeting.

To another question, Mr. Thankachan said he would not comment on reports that the Central zone roadshow would be postponed taking into consideration Mr. Mani’s demand.

“The final decision will be taken by the UDF meeting on Tuesday.” he said.

“The statement made by KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran to the effect that the jathas should be taken out as scheduled reflected the opinion of the Congress,” Mr. Thankachan said.

He said the Central zone jatha would be led by KC(M) senior leader C.F. Thomas. He had no information that Jose K. Mani, MP, was being deputed in place of Mr. Thomas, Mr. Thankachan said.

Meanwhile, Kottayam District Congress Committee president Tomy Kallani said Monday’s meeting of Congress leaders had decided to work for the success of the zonal jathas.
