June 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - SALEM:

Tension prevailed at the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital here on Thursday as members of various Dalit outfits staged protest over the death of V. Gokulraj, an engineering graduate, whose body was found with his head severed on the railway track at South Thottipalayam, near Pallipalayam, on Wednesday.

Gokulraj of Saastha Nagar in Omalur Taluk completed his Electronics and Communication Engineering course last month at a private engineering college in Tiruchengode. On Tuesday, he is said to have spoken with his friend Swathi (20), a final year ECE student, at the foothills of Sri Arthanareeswarar Temple at Tiruchengode when an unidentified gang abducted him.

Swathi informed Gokulraj’s mother about the incident who along with relatives searched for him. The victim’s mother lodged a complaint with the Tiruchengode Town police and a case under Section 363 (abduction) was registered against unknown persons with Swathi as witness.  The Erode Railway Police registered a case under Section 174 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPc) and the body was taken to Government Hospital in Erode.
