YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy on Monday threatened to launch agitation if the government failed to release compensation to cyclone affected farmers before November 5.

He alleged that the officials did not visit many villages to assess the damage despite repeated requests from farmers. He indicated that YSR Congress would stage protests at MRO offices very soon over cyclone compensation and loan waiver issue.

He began his tour in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts in the afternoon. He expressed concern over huge damage to fishermen and farmers. He consoled Hudhud cyclone victims at Dibbapalem in Bhogapuram mandal of Vizianagaram district and later visited Subhadrapuram in Srikakulam district.

Mr. Jagan demanded that the government pay Rs. 2.5 lakh compensation each to fishermen who lost boats and Rs.50,000 for those who lost their nets. “The government should provide compensation of Rs.50,000 an acre to farmers of cashew crop. Coconut farmers have to be paid Rs. 5,000 for each tree. The compensation should not be less than Rs. 50,000 for damaged houses,” he said.

The YSRC chief will visit cyclone affected areas of Gara and Amadalavalasa mandals on Tuesday. He will also visit various places on Wednesday before leaving for Hyderabad.
