The incessant rain has wrecked havoc on the farm sector as the farmers have incurred huge losses. The normal life came to a standstill with many villages being inundated. Many tribal villages remained cut off from the mainstream in agency mandals of the district. Scores of rivulets and streams were overflowing. The vehicular movement in Bhupalpalli mandal was also affected due to overflowing Morancha Vagu.
District Collector G. Kishan, Joint Collector Pousami Basu accompanied by officials toured the low-lying areas in the district headquarters here on Saturday.
Standing crops in 13,424 acres have been damaged, 199 houses collapsed, 22 cattle died and one tank breached in Mahabubabad division.
One person reportedly died in a wall collapse in Kasibugga in Warangal town. Colonies in Hunter road, Sammaiah Nagar, Hanamkonda bus stand area were flooded with water.
All the 51 mandals received heavy rain with Narmetta receiving the highest rain fall of 186.8 mm followed by Devaruppula (177.4 mm), Lingala Ghanpur (170.3mm) and Raghunathpally (146.6 mm). The district received 30 per cent excess rainfall against the average annual rainfall of 993.7 mm. During October, the district records a rainfall of 72.5mm rain but it has received 215.7 mm this year, an excess of 197.5 mm.
At Hunter road, the compound wall of the Vana Vignana Kendra was collapsed. However, there was loss of wildlife. The mini zoo also suffered extensive damage.The Collector held a meeting with the District Disaster Management Committee comprising the officials from police, irrigation, revenue, municipal departments.
