CPI(M) picks holes in questionnaire

Taking exception to the content in the questionnaire being circulated for gathering people’s views on the smart city challenge programme, the city unit of CPI (M) has opined it does not reflect the basic problems of people in the city.

For many questions the answers are well-known and there is no need to seek answers from citizens, feels the party.

For instance, the question on parking at shops was quite self-explanatory. Vehicles are generally parked at shops, he said.

The questions on water supply do not need any answer from citizens. GVMC itself has announced that for some areas the supply is for 45 minutes and for suburbs 30 minutes.

The power supply situation is quite well-known to EPDCL. Public transport covers only 35 per cent of commuting needs and bus shelters are in a bad shape.

While questions are asked on health and education, there are schools without toilets and the condition of GVMC dispensaries is poor at many places, says Mr. Ganga Rao. The questions on greenery make no sense since 39 wards have no parks and in 23 they are not well-maintained.

Before conducting the survey, the suggestions of intellectuals, professors in various universities and engineers and social scientists would have been taken.

A pilot survey should also have been conducted before a full-fledged one, according to him.
