Court grants police custody of Badani

Following the Siddavatam court granting 5-day police custody of international red sanders smuggler Mukesh Badani, the Badvel police shifted him to the area police station and commenced their interrogation on Sunday.

Kadapa SP Naveen Gulati told The Hindu that the custody of Badani would end on Friday.

He was shifted to Badvel from the district jail amidst tight security.

Badani's interrogation has turned vital for the Kadapa police following his alleged links with notorious smuggler Kollam Gangi Reddy, who is now lodged in a Mauritius jail after he was arrested by the Interpol there a couple of months ago.

The police are of the view that Badani had a strong network with red sanders smugglers not only in southern States, but elsewhere in the country.

He was nabbed by the Kadapa police last week at Hissar in Haryana along with Rs. 20 crore worth red sanders dump, following information from two local smugglers at Railway Kodur in the district.

Ever since his arrest, Badani had been arguing that he was not a smuggler, but held a valid licence for his businesses.

The Haryana-based red sanders accused had even spoken to the media before confining him to judicial custody.

He said though he held licence for his red sanders business, he was falsely projected as a smuggler.
