A couple was killed and their two children sustained injuries when the building they were living in collapsed at Hussaini Alam on Sunday morning, the police said.

A businessman Syed Mohd Moinullah Hussaini alias Hyder (43) lived along with his wife Khadeerunnisa Aliya (40) and their children Syeda Sameera (12) and Syed Mohammed Suleiman Hussain (7) on the first floor of the building that is a part of the centuries-old Hussaini Alam Ashoorkhana.

Around 7 a.m. on Sunday, the building collapsed following heavy rain on Saturday night. All the four family members were caught under the debris.

The family had moved into the building, which once housed the ‘naqaar khana’ (drum house), a few months ago following renovation of the main building of the Ashoorkhana, Charminar ACP K Ashok Chakravarthy said.

Soon after the incident the Hussaini Alam police rushed to the spot and, with the assistance of locals and fire department personnel, pulled the injured persons out of the debris and shifted them to the Osmania General Hospital. However, Hyder and Khadeerunnisa died while undergoing treatment.
